I think it put into perspective what a nice design they were when one of my club's members had his wagon of that model on display and that was very nice. He sold his 55 Chevy and is in the market to buy. On the way home after looking at a very unrealisticly priced Chevelle I told him about this Buick. He didn't even bat an eyelash! Not interested because it's not a Chevy.........people are mind-set. If it was a 62 Nova, the bids would be never-ending..............I wish I had the extra cash. Guest Tom Posted October 22, 2006 Share Posted October 22, 2006 The woman that bought the car at the auction I sold it at in Sept of '05 was the auctioneer's (the guy listing it on Ebay's) niece. When I brought the car to the auction site on the Friday afternoon before the auction started, he introduced me to his niece. He was telling me that she really wanted a '65-66 Mustang convert, but she couldn't afford a really decent one, so he thought the Skylark would be a good alternative for her. She is the one who ended up buying it. It obviously wasn't a satisfactory substitute for the Mustang as it was back up for sale at the same auction this Sept. and it had only been driven about 300 miles. Interesting that it sold this year for the exact same amount that I sold it for last year. Now it is on Ebay listed by the auction company. If you go to this website web page and scroll towards the bottom to recent auction results, you can click on Sept '05 and Sept' 06 results. You will see that both listings for the car are almost identical with identical sale prices. Not sure if he is willing to let it go for a loss. Also, Hemmings Classic Car magazine had a short article about the Sept '05 sale I believe in either the Nov '05 or Dec '05 issue.If you think you are interested in it let me know, I'd be happy to give you an honest description of the car. Guest Tom Posted October 24, 2006 Share Posted October 24, 2006 Gary, when the picture was taken, the car had just been taken off the trailer and I needed to clean it up the next day so just left it on the bottom. The lift has a 7000 lb rating so keeping the bigger car on top isn't an issue. It just looks odd 'cause the Skylark is so much smaller. Even when I had the car, I still kept it on the bottom as it took up less room in the garage which made it easier for me to move around inside as it is basically just a 2 car garage. I don't know for sure how the bidding process works, but according to the bid history, it would appear that the final bid was the reserve. It will be interesting to see if the deal actually goes through or if it is just a sham bid or someone was just trying to see what the reserve was.While the car was very nice, it did have it's flaws and personally I would not have paid $12K for it having seen it in person. I can't believe he thinks he can turn around and make even more money off of it. He even left very complementary feedback for the seller from the last time it was on Ebay, so I would guess he was happy with it. Car is now in Nebraska. I was going to ask the seller a question as to why he is selling so soon after he just bought it if it is such a nice car. His statement that the car has 95% original paint is patently false. How he came up with that, I have no idea. I know for sure that the sides have been repainted on it as I personally cleaned the overspray off the mldgs.
