I have a 1930 Buick and I drive it quite a bit. I just rebuilt the engine and I'm very uncomfortable with the stock air cleaner. Has anyone used any other kind of air cleaner with success? Has anyone tried filling the original canister with something like scotch brite pads or something similar? Or, should I just leave it alone?

Air filters are always a good idea, just remember that these older cars were made to run mostly on dirt roads. Today's filters would clog up quickly being located so low in the engine while following other cars on dirt roads.

Running a motorcycle filter on your car for touring is a good idea. It's easy to replace it with the original for shows.
