Centurion was here today...

One of our regular posters on the BCA forum stopped by on Friday evening at our house in Eastern Washington. He wanted to see our '60 Invicta four door hardtop, and I wanted to take him for a ride...not only in the '60 but also in our Lucerne. Centurion seemed to like both Buicks. We had a great visit, and it was a pleasure to spend some time with a fellow Buick enthusiast.

Mr. Earl, watch your words, my friend, or I?ll be traveling to Georgia for my next target.

Seriously, I had a great time with Lee and his Buicks.

Lee?s 1960 Invicta 4-door hardtop should be the poster child for the BCA?s Archival Class. This car knocks your socks off with its stunning originality. I?ve ridden in several ?59 and ?61 Buicks over the years, but this was my first ride in a ?Turbine Drive? ?60 and ? yes ? I?d love to add one of these to the collection.

As I approached the ?60 Invicta for the first time, the silver threading in the seat upholstery really jumped out at me. With fewer than 24,000 miles, this car is incredibly striking. It was no surprise to see folks standing in awe as we cruised past.

I?ll add some photos in the near future, but here?s a picture that Lee had furnished last year. The photo does not clearly show that this car is finished in rich Tahiti Beige with the dark Cordovan roof and area between the tailfins.

After our ride in the ?60 Invicta, we turned our focus to Lee?s new Lucerne CXL with the 3800 engine and finished in Dark Garnet. This car is beautiful, and Lee offered me the thrill of spending some time behind the wheel on a rough stretch of highway. The Lucerne is nothing short of impressive. I?ve driven several high-end imports owned by my friends, and, quite frankly, the Lucerne does not seem lacking in any respect. I have never driven a car so quiet and comfortable. Lee showed me the price sticker, and I?m convinced that a V6 Lucerne is one of the great automotive bargains on the market. If I were looking for a new passenger car, I?d be ordering my new Lucerne.

Lee shared photos of some of the Buick events in the Spokane area during years past, and reminisced about the Buicks he remembered from his hometown. Local owners drove a ?58 Limited 4-door Riviera, a ?59 Electra 225 4-door hardtop, and a ?60 Electra 225 4-door hardtop. Lee and I agreed that this trio would make a fantastic Buick collection today.

Thanks, Lee, for sharing your Buicks with me.

Come on down, nothing worth takin in the Brown household...

I bet that car does look nice in person. The Tahiti Beige and in my case the Casino Beige colors for some reason really set off any chrome trim and dark colored roofs. I'd love to see the car in person. I've always thought that the 59, 60 and 61 Buick years sorta paralleled the 54,55 and 56 in that the 54 was quite a change from 53 as the 59 was from 58. Then the next two years were somewhat similar to the same extent. Hope that made sense.

Finally starting to see some Lucernes on the road around here. Mostly 3 holers, only one 4 holer. Driven of course by you guessed it, seniors. Actually in a couple of cases not seniors but ancients. One gentleman had his oxygen in the seat next to him. I was sure to give him a thumbs us as he passed by. Stupid young people, when are they going to learn that all these old folks know something....that Buick is the finest automobile on the planet. Maybe they'll figure it out when they get that age.

Lee, we'd love to see more pictures of your Buicks, maybe in the Me and My Buick(s) forum.

and hey Brian, we'll leave the lights on

I came around the corner of the garage and caught them talking about us, Brian. Here's a picture of older style and new style...anyway you look at it, it's just plain style. Thanks for stopping by Brian, we had a great visit! Thanks Earl for your invitation to me and my Buicks. I'll try and get that together one of these days!
