HELP: 1958 Cadillac transmission diagnosis

Since most members of the cadillac lasalle club are very pompus and will not deal with anything other than a 47 convertible or an eldorado brougham. i am up a tree on this one. i have a 1958 cadillac sedan deville, original paint, original style interior with the original fabric still underneath. as of lately my transmission has been acting up. this car is my daily driver and i love it to death. i am wondering if anyone has any information, of can point me in the direction of anyone in the greater los angeles area that is skilled in dealing with hydramatics of this vintage.

it started when the weather got hot here and has not really gone away as it has done in the past. what happens is, when the car is cool, it shifts ok- not how it used to, but well enough. if i give it more gas it will linger in first off the line untill i let my foot off the gas peadal completely, then it will shift, 2nd to third is almost always fine, but 3rd to 4th takes its toll, again i have to let my foot off the gas completely in order for it to pop in.

what ive done: checked the linkage from the carb to the lever on the transmission- it seems to be fine, but there are some minute adjustments that i do not have any clue as to how they should be set.

added fluid and trans-x

my next step will be to take it for a flush and filter cleaning- if that still doesnt help- id rather have someone with expierence with these transmissions go through it and see if anything can be done aside from a full out rebuild

thanks again-

Lobster,

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, sorry I can't help you with your problem or finding someone in the L.A. area, but I would jump right to the part where you find a person experienced with that trans before you do to many things. Save yourself the aggravation.

Best of luck though with the car.

Ron

Sorry Lou, didnt mean to step on too many toes. it seems as though many club members do not like the idea of someone my age (21) owning a cadillac, especially a pink 58. since i made my last post it has gotten even worse and now im forced to take it in to get a professional to look at it, and my reverse gear has almost completely gone the way of all good things. such is life i guess, there goes my finances for my buick project..
