'53 Windsor
Hi there,I was wondering what gas mileage I should be getting with my 1953 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe. It has a 265ci L6. Thanks, Tom.
Guest De Soto Frank
I would consider anything over 12-14 MPG highway "outstanding"...What tranny do you have: Powerfite, Fluid-Torque, Fluid Drive ?
'53 Windsor
Hi Frank,I have the Torque converter connected to an M-6 semi-auto tranny. I'm sitting at about 13 MPG right now. (Woo-Hoo!) Thanks for the info, I just wanted to make sure nothing was out of the ordinary. Thanks again,Tom.
Guest De Soto Frank
Hi Tom,Say, you're the fellow with the '53 that has the engine-fed torque convertor Chrysler, yes?As far as the gas mileage goes, that car weighs-in around 3,600 pounds ( fairly hefty ), so there's a lot of avoirdupois to drag around...Actually, the Fluid-Torque should give a bit better mileage than would the same car with the older "straight Fluid Coupling"...Make sure your tires are fully inflated and that your front-end is reasonably well-aligned (improper toe-in will cause reduced gas mileage and increased tire wear)...As a point of reference, the most fuel-efficent MoPars of this period were the Plymouths, and they usually didn't get much more than 18 MPG highway, unless they were equipped with overdrive.Happy Motoring !
