Roof frame in Model A

My Father and I are trying to figure out how to remove the forward most wooden frame member. It is encased in metal, the windshield on the outside and the interior framework on the inside.

Is there an easy way to do this? Are we missing something?

I,m having trouble picturing the wood you are trying to remove. A photo would help. also what year and body style. also look at www.fordbarn.com
