Guest 1963starfire
How can I tell if I have the Saginaw or Thompson suspension on my 63 Starfire? Will they interchange? What are the difference if any? Thanks
Oldsfan
I guess you're talking steering linkage. Saginaw and Thompson do not interchange. Saginaw has plastic caps with a nipple on the tie rods and center link. Thompson is a flat metal cap. You can also tell my measuring the studs, though I don't have that information in front of me. If you go to Fusick.com and download their catalog, it'll tell you in there how to determine the difference.Paul

Saginaw idler arm has 3-piece unit w/ threaded hex head bushing.Saginaw stud measurement at pitman arm end of center link= .587Thompson has plain metal covers.1-piece idler arm w/bracket.stud measurement at pitman arm end of center link= .556PART NUMBERS are determined by TYPE-1 w/Flat Bottom oil pan orTYPE-2 w/Step in oil pan. They use different Relay Rods.
