Crankchaft plugs V-12

The pre 1941 crankshafts had plugs that covered cavities inside the throws and these were passageways to send oil to the rod journals. Yes these passage ways or cavities do get dirt in them and should be cleaned. I would find new plugs before I removed the old ones as more and more of what used to be easy to replace is getting to be harder to find.

To replace the plugs use a 3/8 bolt that fits in the space between the plug and the opposite throw and put a nut on the bolt. unscrew the nut to apply preasure on the plug and force it into its hole. Don't forget to dimple the plug to lock it in place and use a sealant between the plug and the hole to prevent oil leaks.
