Hub-cap questions

Recommended Posts

Banging away on the hubcaps Bill was so generous in donating, not ready to display them yet, but have a few questions, on the '39's, it appears that the L and the Z are red, and the smaller letters and definition lines, and the little inside grooves on the edges are black, is this correct?? Also does anyone know if there is a repro center plate for '42's, and the script for a '47-'48, are they chrome for Lincolns and gold for Connies?? Anyway I need a repro of one of those too, and Connie Zephyr, is your sedan white in color, from Los Angeles?? Thanks a lot, Rolf

Rolf, The 42 repro emblem for the hubcap was available through an ad in the Way of the Zephyr not to long ago. The Lincoln repro script for the 47 - 48 front hubcap was available from Nararaganst Reproductions. The correct color for all applications is gold. There is a chrome Lincoln script that is a bit larger that is used on the hood sides of 47 - 48 Zephyr. These are not being repro - ed and can be hard to come by for good ones. The 39 hubcaps are the same as the late 38 caps as the 38s used two different bolt patterns. The early models had wheels like 36 - 37 and used a large diameter hubcap to hide the lug nuts.

Good info as always Bill, thanks very much, the trick now is to make these things nice enough to justify the investment, the hour count is already getting way up there, but I am learning a few tricks to get them better, so it is not totally wasted, onward
