Contact the Cole Automobile Club through Leroy Cole (Cole automotive car club)
Cole was from Indianapolis, 1909-1925 large, powerful cars, came out in 1915 with a V-8, and there are about 70 known today. There was a great history of the Cole written as a dissertation in the early 70's, I need to look it up,..have it someplace. in 1999, a Cole, one of the originals owned by the family (Joseph J. Cole was the founder) came in third in the "Great Race." Cole came about as a buyout of the Black Carriage Company by JJ Cole who decided to build automobiles. It was an assembled car, made up of components such as the Northway engine, Firestone wheels, mostly a high priced auto, which participated in a lot of racing, hill climbs, and other compettitions. It was among the first cars to use balloon tires, in 1923, and was popular as a rum runner's car due to it's powerful engine and large size.
Am always looking for Cole cars, parts and literature,....especially for a certain 1919 Cole Limousine.
RS
[This message has been edited by IndianaCarGuy (edited 01-22-2001).]
[This message has been edited by IndianaCarGuy (edited 01-22-2001).]
[This message has been edited by IndianaCarGuy (edited 01-22-2001).]
