By twin brother and I are flying down this Friday Nov 12th to spend the week with our stepfather in Sarasota. I was just wondering if anyone was going to the Florida Packard Clubs meet on Sunday Nov. 14th. If so maybe we can meet and put faces to our DFer's names.

You going to have any of your cars there?

We have the cub scouts help the Lions club out when we have our Annual Chili and Chicken Dinners.

HI Tom

Boy Thats funny, my Son a Boy Scout. Not for a minute am I laughing at you or making fun of the Boy Scouts. Wait till he finds this out. Its a wonder some one hasnt already answered you about that. No, not a Boy Scout. Mabe its better that you wait and see for yourself. Right now it looks like we will have the 56 Clipper HT. there.. The Scouts used to cater it but 2 years ago they didnt show up & a lot left for a bite & didnt return, so my Son said he would help the Pres. out. This will be the 2nd year for him. See U there. Guess you are right. I type Berger a lot more times than burger. Some dont understand & ask me why I use horseradish on them. Depending whos around I usually say because I dont like to eat them when they are cold, I like them hot. Be nice to have you, but its more of a small get together of those that live rather close to Sarasota. Why I dont know as there are 318 members, and a lot of them own several Packards. Never see them attend any meet we have ever been to. Jack

I'll arrive late that morning with my 1933 Packard. It takes about two hours to tow the old lady up from Naples to "Wit's End," that's the name of Tom Kaiser's homestead where the meet is held each year. If you appreciate Packards and live in Florida then this is the place to be next Sunday.

Well here at work today then up in the blues skies tomorrow morning. We arrive in St. Pete's (PIE) then we will drive down to Sarasota.

I have a question for you Floridians is 41 a nice route to take from Clearwater/St. Pete?s to Sarasota or should we just take 75 down?

I hope that everyone that is going to be at the show has a great time. I certainly will be there in spirit.

ED: Please don't forget that it is a Packard Show and you shouldn't take your Caddy.

Jack, the overdrive unit was not getting proper lubrication. I had it rebuilt and the Cadillac running in about 9 days. It's unfortunate you weren't able to make it to the Florida Packard Club meet. There were two Twelves present this year. Also, an unusual Packard to see today...a 1934 Packard Eight Coupe. It's one of the few that hasn't had its hardtop chopped off to convert the Packard to a convertible. There were 30+ Packards and a little bit of rain. Also your son prepared some good hamburgers and hot dogs.

Hi Ed,

Did you have the Red Twelve? If so you have a beautiful car there. I wish mine was in that caliber.

We got there between 10:30-11:00 Had a burger, chips and soda where we then had to hide under the shed to get out of the rain that came down for a little while. We left shortly after that.

We did talk to a gent name Don from the club and to a Pat Young who gave me some info on why the valve springs on my 833 broke again.

Sorry I missed the rest of you all.

Rick L,

He said the springs could be to long which can cause them to bind and break or worn valve guides. I didn't think the guides had that much played when I did the valves and springs last year.

If the guides are worn enough to brake springs then you should be able to tell by just wiggeling things around. They would have to be VERY Worn to do that. But I would think that it IS something worn or loose, if the same spring locations are breaking repeatedly, instead of defective or wrong size springs.
