faztfreddiez
I inheirted a 1956 Olds 324 in 1963 for my street rod. Now I am finally getting to the project. About five years ago I took apart the 324ci for a rebuild ( some cyclinders need a lot of help). Unfortunately I did not take enough pictures of some areas of the engine and now have a problem. The rebuild is now complete except that I need to identify the use of two recessed threaded holes in the block (hose connection, pitcock or ???). They are located near the front of the block just above the oil pan and about 6" in front of the center block drain valve. There is one on each side of the engine block.Unfortunately my engine rebuilder did not know their use. My 1956 Olds repair manual doesn't show them in the coolant figures, so anybody, Help! Guest Olds88_1956
faztfreddiezI'm not sure either........ but my RUNNING 56 Olds has nothing to occupy the holes; maybe factory lift/anchor points????????
faztfreddiez
In discussing these holes futher it was brought up that could these holes be for an automatic transmission cooler? My engine came from an automatic equipped car.
ogster
I am check my 1956 Olds shop manual and I could use a more accurate description of the holes. Are they on the side of the block or the front. I inches where are they located?

heidigirl
weren't these holes intended to be used in conjunction with an engine support stand whenever the front cover had to be removed?
