RO
240 radiator temp. getting on up there. When my '53 would get up to just ~ 220, the tranny would start slipping.
55PACKARD
Yeah i know 240 is up there but no problems with the trans so far....I think maybe something might be wrong with my filter canister but it didnt make a peep all the way up and all the way back like i said 40 psi too...I guess i will have to leave it for now and just change the oil more regular and im going to put a magnetic drain plug in too...Oh yeah i had the electric fan on and it almost got up too 240 that was also almost 90 degree's out and almost stopped traffic too... So i guess im going to look for a custom rad for ir this year to keep it cooler, anyone know where to get one?

I'd say, get yours cored out. You also need an electric fuel pump and an external tube-style tranny cooler if you're going to drive it in those conditions. 55PACKARD
Yeah i know i need a better trans cooler but to be honest with you i want to do the 727 trans swap for the 3 speed and the reliablity of the chrysler trans you think mine car was running hot my friends 51 merc was at 255..and my friends 29 model A hotrod died because the coil over heated and he has no hood or fenders we cooled it off with some water and ice she started right back up. My car never skipped a beat, once i got moving the temp went right down to 180 which i think is normal for these cars right????

MBL
Hey give us a clue to your new trans swap idea. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I'm really close to putting the funds together for the 727 conversion...I already have the tranny.TimMBL
WCraigH
Tim & anyone else interested in an alternate trans swap approch: It won't be a bolt-in, but will require modifying the engine block & crank. So, unless you're willing to do that, go with a bolt-on deal.
MBL
Ah...I see...Probably will be going with the bolt on deal. But I am interested in this new project. Maybe I will do it for the next Packard I get.TimMBL

WCraigH
In a word, "correct." But of course the devil is in the details.
