Guest
I have a chance to buy a 1970 Riviera GS (requires resto).
How rare is the GS and what options does it have compared to my 1970 Riviera. The guy said it has a factory stage 1 on it. Could this be fact or fiction.

1970 Buick Riviera
1973 Cougar XR7
1997 Chevy Astro
The Old Guy
The GS for the Riv was mostly badging, but they did use larger sway bars and I think ,a larger tire. The only way to be sure it is a stage 1 is to pull a head and check the valve size.they used the same castings for both. The cam had 2 grooves behind the first bearing and if the carb and distributor have not been chsnged, the numbers on those will help. billbuickgs
I thought that 71 was the first year Buick offered the stage 1 in the Riviera. Anyway, if it is correct, it will have chrome valve covers and a throaty sound.
Bill
