Help, 50 New Yorker stalling then wont start again

Recommended Posts

Mangpo: There can be many reasons why a car quits runnning. Most of the time it's either a shortage of fuel at the combustion chamber, or the lack of spark to ignite the fuel; with lack of (effective) spark the most common culprit.

As a starting point, test for spark at the plugs by removing and holding one high-tension wire about an eighth of an inch from the cylinder head, and with the key "on," crank the engine. You should get a spark across the gap.

If you don't, this is a trouble-shooting starting point.

Check the rubber hose on the suction side (gas tank side) of youe fuel pump. These can internally collapse & cause the problem you are describing. These hoses can be obtained from Andy Bernbaum Auto Parts. He advertises regularly in Hemming's. Also check your fuel filter!
