Oil Pressure Wows

Recommended Posts

I have a 1984 Cutlass Supreme with a 3.8 carburetorated engine. Yesterday the oil pressure light went on every time I stopped at a light. If I put it in Neutral and gave it just a little gas the light went out, I just noticed this yesterday. I happens only when the car has been driven long enough to bring the engine up to normal operating temperature. Could this mean I need a new oil pump?

Try changing oil first, using an AC Delco filter and straight 30 weight oil. If that doesn't help, then I'd say the oil pump or its relief spring is weak. The good thing is that it's a fairly simple changeout on the Buick 3.8. It can be done without removing the oil pan.
