Guest
The air conditioning system in my 89 has a few leaks in it and is still set up for use with r-12. The guy who owned it before me simply took it to the shop every spring and had them put more r-12 in it and he said it would last the season. Now it is low again and I am trying to decide weather or not to either just have it fixed and more r-12 put back in or to have it retrofitted to 134A. The shop claims that it has leaks in 2 or 3 places along the system. Any suggestions people, thanks.
FlyByNite
I would suggest trying the SEARCH function up there near the top of the page. I would also increase the seach range to 6 months or a year, maybe even all posts. Lotsa posts on this in the past.
harry yarnell
The two usual suspects for leakage on a Reatta are the compressor shaft seal, and the evaporator. Comp seal is 'relitevely' easy to replace, but the evap. is a good days job. Arguments both ways on changing over to 134.
Guest spongebob
if it needs a recharge every year, there should be a obvious indicator of where the leak is (oily around the area of the leak). could be simple as tightening fittings, or a pain like condensor/evaporator or even a bad compressor (bent shaft, leaky seal..) take a soultion of soapy water and see if you can find the leak your self, then determine the course of action..if you use 134, youll need to replace the filter/drier, and orifice..i always replace r12 with r12..
