nearchoclatetown
Did anyone ever take their headlight-ignition switch apart? Mine acts up after driving awhile and motor cuts out and backfires as it makes and breaks contact. Sometimes when I jiggle the key it helps. I think the switch comes apart. Leadfoot, got your ears on? Thanks
Guest imported_RAH
Nearchocolatetown, Sheesh, what a handle! You neglected to mention what vintage switch assy.? The earlier Briggs & Stratton switches are a pain. The Clum are much easier to disassemble and clean up. and the later white faced Caskey Dupre are nearly impossible to restore if the handle is broken off or the glass face is broken. I have found the contacts inside are usually easily cleaned up with a white rubber typewriter eraser and the application of an antioxident contact cleaner & lubricant should facilitate proper function. If you have a problem or would rather not attempt it yourself perhaps I can assist. I have a collection of spare parts of old switches, or Vern at ROMAR, or Roy Brister could help. nearchoclatetown
Thanks, Roger,I should have specified my switch is a '24 Clum.
nearchoclatetown
I think I found the problem. The switches do come apart pretty easily. There was some schmeg growing on the coil terminal. I'll try it out tommorow night and see if it's fixed. Thanks Rodger for your help, and BTW I actually live closer to the end of town with the sewer plant but I didn't think Shihead would be acceptable.
