Installed a set of front cornering lights today in my 69 Electra. Pluged into existing plugs and am getting nothing. Tested at wire at original plug side and don;t seem to be getting anything. Am I missing something to get these working? A different turn signal cam? Yes there are bulbs in them and they are new Thanks

Hi Keith

If your car didn't originally have the cornering lights, you will need a new or good used turn signal switch. This is the switch at the bottom of the steering column. There should be an extra 3 terminals for the cornering light harness to plug into, the wiring harness and the plug should be allready wired into your harness, probably tied up under dash to main harness. I went through this when my original switch went broken, on my 66 Cat. I had a very difficult time locating one because my car had tilt, an all together different switch.

Good luck

Ok, I spent the morning under the dash along with my service manual. It appears the 69's where already completely wired for the cornering lamps. There is already wires plugged in that accoring to the s/m should be the cornering lamps. I'm left stumped. Any other idea's? Thanks

Hi Keith

Another possibility is your turn signal switch, I know that there are two types in 1967, one for standard turn signal and one for turn signals with cornering lights. This is the switch inside your steering column.

Installing cornering lights is not as simple as it looks or sounds.

If you have a parts book check the part numbers. I am sure I have a new assembly for 1967 W/cornering lights.

Good luck

I have the same issue with my 70. I think my problem is a bad ground although I never got to check it because of alot of other things and the fact I stopped driving it after dark :-) At least for now! Anyway, since it is a single wire to the bulb I think the unit needs to ground to the body, probably through mounting brackets or something...then there is the question: Are you turning on your lights when you check it? I think (and I may be wrong) that the lights need to be on for the cornering lights to turn on. Can anyone with this option confirm or deny this?

HI John, have tried the grounding and also have tried lights on off and every other way. Who ever thought cutting the holes for them and mounting them would be the easy part. I am not getting current to the lights, have checked with a meter even at the plug where you plug the cornering lights into the harness. It must be something under the dash/steering column I'm missing. Have stared at the wiring diagrams and service manual until I know it by heart.

ok i got the books out and dug a little...(all referenced from the 70 shop manual)

you need to have the lights (parking or headlights) on for the cornering lamps to energize.

the shop manual shows a ground from the cornering lamp assembly on each side to the chasis.

the cornering lamps go through the TAIL LGT fuse.

The shop manual also shows a seperate connection around the turn signal connection with a three wire connector called "Cornering Lamp Switch". You may want to check and make sure this is ok and connected. Wire colors are listed as brown, gray, and blk/wht. That is assuming it is the same setup they used for the 70!

Let me just say the shop manual does not have any more information about the cornering lamps than this! D'OH! Very sparse information...like a paragraph on the option then you have to dig and find the wiring diagrams but there is no troubleshooting information on this option...so keep us posted on this one as it undoubtedly will come up again! My next step was going to be to pull the lamp assembly (well use the ones I have from a parts car!) and bench test the lamps to make sure my light sockets were making good contact. But as my previous post said I have not got back to it yet! But it's on my list!
