Carlisle GM Nats

I wonder if they should rename this event the Camaro/Firebird Nationals. 1000 f-bodies and about a dozen Oldsmobiles! This was NOT a great show for Olds guys...I noted very few cars in the Olds owner's area, and only a few for sale in the corral on Saturday. And as for parts, I think I saw more Ford parts at this supposedly GM-only show than Oldsmobile parts!

Sorry to gripe. Anyway, it was sorta sad. Since I'm in a cantankerous mood...if anyone saw that white 1966 442 convertible "L69" automatic trans car on EBay recently, it was there. Asking price was $29,900. The car was abominable in person, proving that pics do NOT tell the whole story.

Scott, this event started life as the Carlisle Camaro Nationals, so it stands to reason it would be overrun with F-body cars.

I had wanted to go, but something called making a living got in the way once again. I've had vacation cancelled 3 times already this year, twice for Carlisle events. They tell you at the literal last minute "business needs do not allow for any vacation or time off at this time". The a-hole middle manager doing this got transferred abruptly to another plant today, hooray!

The inaugural All GM in 2001 was sad for Olds too- the Riviera Owners Association had more cars there than total Oldsmobiles. I don't know what to do to get them out there.

I will say this- I found a beautiful Western used 64 Starfire grille at the 2001 event, so it can't be a total bust <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />. I'd been looking for one for 15 years.

I think it's peer pressure myself. When most people think of muscle cars, not many are going to say Oldsmobile. So many people have a Camaro or whatever, that the ones that do have an Olds are afraid to take it and try to join the crowd. I think it's a treat to see an Olds after looking at 5 consecutive Chevelles at a show. I was just at the biggest show in Michigan Sunday, and out of about 1200 cars, I only saw about a dozen Oldsmobiles. I only saw two '68's, a Cutlass coupe and a H/O. I'm sick of seeing all the Chevelle's (though I do like them a lot), Camaros, ugly street rods, etc. I'm especially sick of all the chopped up cars with engine's that barely fit, and burst my eardrums as the idiot behind the wheel squeels his tires (like no one else at the show could do it). It's a breath of fresh air to see a nice stock 442 convertible. It would be nice if more people had the guts to take out their Olds (there must be a lot out there), but on the other hand it's nice having a car that's not so common.
