Leif in Calif
McKinley was the first U.S. President to ride in an automobile, including the ambulance that took him away after he was shot, but here's his successor, TR in a very interesting electric two years later in Hartford Connecticut in 1902. The car is identified as a Grand Victoria made by the Electric Vehicle company. The driver and his assistant sit above and behind, as in a hansom cab. I also love his bicycle mounted security detail. Apparently mustaches were required! Photo from Ruben Verdes at the Society of Automotive Historians, enhanced by me.
