My favorites are any American convertible built from 1955 to 1965. From AMC to Willys. Those years to me were the best this country will ever see. From cars to music, it will never be repeated.

Number one in my book is the 38 Bugatti Atlante coupe. Unbelieveable. My next favorite took seven years to find, but now rests comfortably in the garage - a 58 Olds 98 J-2 coupe. There are many others, but those two top the charts. Matt

I don't know whether you are aware if this ,but the author Clive Cussler, who wrote the action series with dirk pitt as the hero, actually owns all the cars he has written about and more!! The Buick Driving Enthusiasts division of the BCA had the opportunity to tour his collection in Golden Colorado two years ago,and he has an absolutely fabulous collection. Not only does he have the exotic cars that Dirk Pitt drove like the Talbot Lago and the Hispano- Suisso ,he has 53 Buick Skylark 58 Pontiac Bonneville Convert 57 Chev convert and probably 50 more.

Oh, I knew that Cussler owned all the cars, hence the wink.gif" border="0 . Sahara was the first book of his I read and lets see, was that the one with the Cord? And I forgot which book it was but what about the one where he borrows the old boat/barge and discovers it has a HP Ford big block in it shocked.gif" border="0. I love those books.

Guest 70 Electra

Shaffer,
You obviously "dig" station wagons! Tomorrow (6/23) in Dearborn Michigan, the National Station Wagon Owners Association is having a national convention. Was some good local news coverage on the tube tonight and it looks like some neat cars. (One that looked cool was a 68 Pontiac Executive wagon which was the one with the woodgrain)
The location is only a half hour away, so I'm going to buzz down there in the morning and see what's up.

70 Electra. Yep, I am a fan of old wagons. I really "dig" the 68 Executive Safaris that you spoke about. I missed out ona 69 Pontiac Safari, loaded, for only $2,000. It needed total resto, but I would have liked to have had it. I have always liked wagons, but have NEVER owned one. I hope that changes soon, as I am hoping to buy a 1973 Buick Estate Wagon. 9-passenger, dark green, woodgrain, loaded, and only 79,000 actual 1-owner miles. In in above average shape, only bad things are seat is coming apart at seams and some bubbles starting under the woodgrain on the left rear, up high. I can get it fairly cheap, but it is 175 miles away, and I have to find time to go look. My cousin in Richmond got a 69 Pontiac Catalina Safari with the factory 428 for only $1. His father owned a repair shop/carlot and a old couple offered it to him for $1. My other uncle ownes a 60 Pontiac Safari, needs total resto. More than I want to put into one. I like the Pontiac wagon best, because it has a more "sport" look to it than any other full-size car. That wagon show sounds cool. Wish we had one down here in Tennessee.
[ 06-22-2001: Message edited by: Shaffer ]
[ 06-22-2001: Message edited by: Shaffer ]
