Fr. Buick
Help! I found a stock split manifolds set-up (and sang a few Alleluia's!) with what look like stock Strombergs off an obviously-not-correct 49 Special in a junk yard.
Problem: Accelerator shaft on secondary Stromberg is frozen in place and linkage on the end broken off. This was rusted shut, collected a lot of moisture, and just won't turn, much less come out in one piece. Yes, I've been soaking it for weeks, and no, I don't want to risk warpage by heating it.
Shaft is .277 dia, 5 inches long plus enough to mount the linkeage. Venturi are 1 and 3/16ths.
A speed parts source, VintageSpeed.com shows something very close for flat-head devotees, but they seem to be for smaller venturi, and are set up for linkeage on the wrong end of the shaft.
Any ideas or sources for a new shaft and disks? Grateful for ay help.
Jyrki
There are specialized shops like Apple Hydraulics. See their link and others at www.nic.fi/~marlin/buicklinks.htm
Let us know how it turns out
Jyrki
Guest
I have several carburetors for 1941-42 Buicks with compound carburetion. They are for the Special & Super models with 248 cubic inch engines, they would be reasonable.
Guest
the carbs I have have 60 years accumulatin of dirt on them. The front ran perfectly, but the rear "ran over"so I put on rebuilts I had in stock. The original units had only 40k on them.I have no linkage. They are Carters, which most owners and mechanics liked best.
