'89 DS door handle needed

Went to pick up all my goodies at the dealer today for my 'new' Reatta: A bunch of 890 bulbs, an antenna cable, a power window motor, trunk lock barrel, etc. However, the door handle looked like something for a '70's vintage car. External, angular, and clearly not right. *sigh* He did some part number searching and found it to be discontinued. No big surrprise there...

Anyone have a driver's side door handle for an '89? Sapphire blue, preferably. (I think that's right...sort of a dark metallic and I know its _not_ maui blue.)

Also, does this part cross to other cars? Looks a lot like handles I saw on similar vintage Caprices. (early 90's)

Reatta's from '88-90 are the only car that used that handle. Reattas in '91 and

Chevrolet used a similar handle on a couple of their cars in the late '80s

but they did not have the extra mounting on the back side for a small

switch that feeds the body computer ( BCM ) to control some of the

functions of the lights, keyless entry and the security system. I do have

the handle you are looking for. I have them in several colors although no blue ones but the body can be painted. I can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com

My solution was for a different cause, my car had been painted and the black bead around the handle insert had been painted as well. First option was to disassemble and strip the paint off but since there was age/ pitting just starting to happen on both handle pulls I elected to replace them.

NAPA P. N.'s

Drivers side PN 735-4566, Passenger side PN 735-4567

These are listed by NAPA as '91 Reatta Handles but don't have the BCM alert switch on them. The Handle Pocket needs painting comes as primer gray.

I just used the parts, the handle pull itself and the Gasket. Has to be one of the nastier little projects I've ever attempted on the Reatta working down through the side window glass slot. Had my hands pretty carved up by the time the R & R was finished. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
