Old buicks 2 Posted January 28, 2023 Share Posted January 28, 2023 Finally got the rear axle apart and found that the drive shaft under the pinion gear has a big chunk out of it. I think it can be welded and remachined - see pictures. Big question is, the bearing race on the pinion shaft is trash. Can a new one be made and hardened, if so what Brinell rating should it be. Also, how do you set the pinion to ring gear clearance on the 18 Maxwell rear axle? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
