I may be out of line here but i know this car was sold on E-bay not too long ago for about $500.00. Now it is gutted and now the price is $725.00. ????? My suggestion would be trying to sell that 283 on a Chevy site and not here, its about the only thing left on that car. I am not trying to say what people can sell things for because there is usually someone out there that will buy anything.

What you are doing is robbery. Buick owners have always been stand up guys. Maybe you should sell all your buicks and buy a Chevelle. But this is proof that there is an a$$ for every seat.

If I were less mature I could turn this thread into a flame war, like some of you seem to have tried to do, but I won't. Let me say this....

The "buy-it-now" price is just that. It's not the sale price, and it's not the reserve price. What difference does it make how much I paid for it? If I found a GS400 behind my neighbors barn and purchased it for $50, are you implying that I'm an a55 if I sell it for $4500? That kind if thing happens every single day, and I'm usually the guy that pays the $4500. Never the guy that finds the $50 deal. And you know what. I don't care. I paid $3400 for my 67 Lark daily driver and I know for a fact the guy that I got it from paid $2100 for it a few month before and didn't do one single thing to it. Doesn't bother me a bit. I got what I wanted at a price that I felt was fair. So what if he made some cash off me. That's how things work in America. I don't feel I got screwed....I feel that he found a great deal, and I got what I wanted. We're both happy.

If you think this car is overpriced, don't bid on it. Simple as that. If you think it's overpriced BECAUSE of what I have invested in it, thats just plain ignorance. Not only did I pay for the car, I have hunderds invested in moving it 3 states. Maybe someone local is interested in it. Well..I moved it here for them. Thats worth something. There's still alot of valuable parts on this car even if you were buying it only to finish parting it out. I would like to keep most of them parts, but thought I would list it so someone could restore it if they wanted to. If it don't sell...no big deal, I'll gut 'er the rest of the way out and scrap the body. I hate to do it, but it's too far gone for me to restore. I don't have the cash or the space for it.

I could have just finished parting it out and made all my investment back, and got my parts from it for free. But I thought I would at least try to keep one more Buick out of the crusher by giving it a chance to sell complete. Sounds like I should just crush it? Is that what your saying? Doesn't sound like something a "buick guy" would say.

It also sounds like you're implying that none of you have ever tried to make a few bucks by buying and selling something. I find that hard to believe.

C'mon guys...this is no way to communicate.

Yes, the car is very rough, but Rick has every right to do what he is doing, and you can't stop him. The engine is a 283 Chevy...definitely not something most of the Buick folks are interested in, but you never know.

Rick, if you don't meet the price you want for the car, part it out the rest of the way and see if you can sell the parts by themselves. You'll have better luck if people don't see what is/was attached to the part (read: rust bucket) If there wasn't so muhc rot on this thing, you'd probably easily get what you're asking, but since it's a basket case, it's not likely you'll get a return in investment. This is the kind of car you kinda just have to throw away...99% of the restoring population wouldn't touch a car with that much rot on it.

But for your sake, I hope you find someone who is willing to take it off your hands. Like you said, there is always someone who needs certain parts and will pay the price to get them.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the encouraging words guys (and/or gals?).

You're right about the parts. I could end the auction right now and make all (and prolly more) of my money back by selling just the parts that people have asked about in the tons of emails I've recieved since the auction started. I won't do that because I would rather see someone restore this car. If no-one wants it, then I guess I have no choice but to tear it apart.

I could have done alot worse things like spend half a day getting the motor running, then put a $50 paint job on it that will last about 30 days, and take 2 pictures from 50 feet away and list it with a starting price of $2000. It prolly would have sold quickly. But I'm not like that. I took tons of detailed pictures and described it as a "turd". C'mon, you gotta give me some credit for being very honest about the car. I would never try to screw anyone like that.

I'm a very honest and open person. I didn't try to hide the fact that I paid $500 for it. If I wanted to hide that, I would have waited about 30 more days and the original eBay sale would have been purged from eBay records. The reserve is set lower than what I have invested in it. As a matter of fact, the "buy-it-now" price is lower than what I have invested in it. However much I sell the car and/or parts for will determine how much I paid for the parts I took.

Anyways... I am usually a thick skinned person, but it bothers me to come under a personal attack like being outright called an a55 over something as insignificant as this.

Oh well....what can a guy do. :-)

Thanks again

Rick

i think the real bad guy here is the person who let this car get to this point in the first place! a 4 speed GS is a rare car even back in 67, and i am sure at some point someone loved this car. but who sold it to the COOTER who let it rust out and get butchered up?

A while back on this forum the members discussed a grossly mislabeled Buick that was on eBay. While they badgered the owner about his errors and discussed this among themselves, I took the time to call him and discuss what information I needed to make a good decision. I also had him send me detailed photos. As a result of my patience, I got a very nice 69 Stage 1 4 speed car for GS400 money.
