I will give this car, less engine, to anyone who will take it. Or, I will trade the complete car for a running 350/4v Buick engine. There is no title, but I think one could be obtained. The history as far as I can tell: The car belonged to an elderly couple who owned the house where it is garaged. The car was garaged in 84-86 (dates on tag & inspection) when the couple moved to an assisted living home. When both later died the house and several hundred acres was willed to a seminary. I manage the house for the seminary, and have permission to dispose of the car. The odometer reads 40k, whether that is 40k or 140k I do not know, but suspect 40k. The car is complete, no dents, no rust. Just dust. It even sits on bias ply tires (flat). I want the engine for another project. I hate to send the car to the crusher, but have nowhere else to store it. I have included some links to pics and my email.

Would you have any interest in just selling the car for enough money to buy a engine? Is it the "Custom" model? If so, it will have the "Custom" script under the LeSabre emblem on the front fender. Is that mold on the steering wheel or paint? Is it located in South Carolina?

I think the car is a custom, I will have to double check. The substance on the steering wheel is chalky, leading me to believe it is some type of mold. it wipes off easily. The car is located in Rock Hill, SC just south of Charlotte.

Thanks for the reply. Rock Hill, SC is not to far away from me. I am about 3 hours from Charlotte, NC. Believe it or not, but Rock Hill, SC is where my old 72 Buick Electra went. It should be down there somewhere. Give it some thought about possibly just selling the car, with the engine. I may be interested, if the floors and frame is not rusty. Have you tried to start the engine, or is the car been untouched since the mid 1980s? Thanks again.

Tony, Guy from Indiana has 1st dibs on the car. He is supposed to have an engine to swap. If it falls through I will let you know. Where in E. Tenn.? My birth certificate says Morristown on it, but thats only 'cause my Dad was held prisoner there by his employer for a couple of years. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> The car has been in that garage for the last 15+ years, so it has no visible rust, just lots of dust. I was talking with a friend of mine today who has seen the car, and his thought is same as mine, 4 tires, carb kit, fresh gas & battery and it would probably drive out of the garage.

Thanks Bugs. In case you people missed the 1st word in my description, I will offer a 100% MONEY BACK GUARANTEE IF YOU ARE NOT COMPLETELY SATISFIED.

I am not a Buick collector. I have 2 older FSJs (Full Size Jeep). In case ya'll did not know, Kaiser put the 350 Buick engine in Wagoneers and Gladiators(truck) from 1968-1971. I plan to put a Buick 350 in my 1966 Gladiator to replace the original AMC 327. Both are known for their low-end torque and are both good engines, but parts are slightly easier to find for the 350 than the 327. I do not have much interest in the car for myself, but being fanatical about my Jeeps, I am trying to save an old car, and help someone here at the same time. I think I could have the car drivable in one weekend. I am not trying to "take" somebody.......hey, the car is FREE!

Thanks Todd. Let me know if the guy in Indiana does not want it. I would like to see the car restored, whether I get it or not. I live about 80 miles from Morristown. Morristown is just northeast of Knoxville. If I was to get the car, I would rebuild the carb, probably have to install new brake lines/master cylinder, valve cover gaskets, oil and transmission fluid change, radiator flush, new wiper blades, new tires (obviously), although the bais-ply tires look neat on a car of this era and hope and pray that no rodents have damaged any of the electrical wiring on the car. Also, maybe a fogger to set off in the car, to kill any of those South Carolina spiders that may have made the car their home, as well as a close inspection for snakes- although spiders or snakes probably not a problem this time of year- even in upstate South Carolina. I have confirmed it is the "Custom" model. I can see the emblem under the LeSabre name plate on the front fender. This car is also a pillarless hardtop, which I think adds to the value of the car. Again, if he does not want it- let me know if you would just sell it for cash to buy the engine you are wanting. You are right about the price- FREE without engine. Can't beat a deal like that. But the plans I have for it, I would need the engine in the car. Perhaps a derbier would take the body only, or someone restoring a LeSabre, but it would be a shame to see this classic, stored car ruined. Thanks again.

OK, now I have some questions. How "special" is this car? I still am going to trade it, but I want it to go to a loving home(ie: the best available). Especially if it is an unusual example. If it is, then I will try to obtain a title. It would be a shame to part it out if it is a low production or otherwise hard to come by example. Let's hear it, is a LeSabre Custom pillarless hardtop unusual?

Found this on buicks.net, 1971 production:

LESABRE SERIES

Model 45239-Four-Door Hardtop.................................14,234

Model 45269-Four-Door Sedan...................................26,348

Model 45439-Custom Four-Door Hardtop..........................41,098

Model 45457-Custom Two-Door Sport Coupe.......................29,944

Model 45467-Custom Convertible Coupe...........................1,856

Model 45469-Custom Four-Door Sedan............................26,970

I take this to mean that this was the highest volume LeSabre model for that year?

No, the '72 LeSabre Custom 4-door hardtop was not a low production model, and it is unlikely that this car will ever be high on most people's "want" list. Still, many of these full-size cars have suffered an early demise as a parts donor for someone's Skylark or GS project or as a demolition derby contender. There is definitely SOME collector interest in these full-size cars, and, for those of us who appreciate them, it's hard to see an unmolested original go the way of so many others. In view of the car's unique history and condition, I hope that someone will step forward with an interest in acquiring it -- complete with engine.

True. It was not a very low production car, but much less made than its 73 Impala 4dr cousin, where 100s of thousands of that model was made. I think out of all of the 70s GM cars, the 73 Impala 4dr sedan had the highest production number. Your LeSabre Custom 4dr hdtp is rarer than its larger sister- the Electra 225 Custom, but not the base Electra, or the Centurion 4dr hdtp, or even the base LeSabre 4dr sedan. The production numbers you posted was for the 1971 LeSabres. Your car is a 1972 model. Here are the numbers for the full-size 1972 Buicks- including LeSabres, Centurions as well as the Electras and Estate Wagons.

1972

LESABRE SERIES

Model 45239-Four-Door Hardtop.................................15,160

Model 45257-Two-Door Sport Coupe..............................14,011

Model 45269-Four-Door Sedan...................................29,505

**Model 45439-Custom Four-Door Hardtop..........................50,804** (your car)

Model 45457-Custom Two-Door Coupe.............................36,510

Model 45467-Custom Convertible Coupe...........................2,037

Model 45469-Custom Four-Door Sedan............................35,295

ESTATE WAGON

Model 46035-Wagon(two seats)..................................10,175

Model 46045-Wagon(three seats)................................18,793

ELECTRA 225 SERIES

Model 48237-Two-Door Sport Coupe...............................9,961

Model 48239-Four-Door Hardtop.................................19,433

Model 48437-Custom Two-Door Sport Coupe.......................37,974

Model 48439-Custom Four-Door Hardtop.........................104,754

CENTURION SERIES

Model 46639-Four-Door Hardtop.................................19,852

Model 46647-Two-Door Sport Coupe..............................14,187

Model 46667-Convertible Coupe..................................2,396

You can see that aside from the Electra 225 Custom 4dr, that your car was the next popular model, with 50,000+ made. It was actually the most popular LeSabre for 72, but most people like the pillarless models and the Customs are a little fancier than the base LeSabres. Though no where near the 50,000 remain today, but these cars can still be found on sites such as ebay, as well as traderonline.com. Again, if you have a interest in selling it, with engine, let us know.

Good luck.
