Guest
My new/old 1971 Delta 88 Royale is supposed to have a 455 engine, but I just pulled R45 delco plugs from block. This is a 307 plug according to everything I can find. I had to buy a large plug remover just to see what I had. The engine looks like a 455. Could an R45 have been used in place of the correct plug? I haven't researched the block numbers yet.
Guest
if its a big block - it will have a large F with cast numbers- next to oil filler tube - also heads will have a letter cast into corner of heads(small blocks will have numbers)
rocketraider
The 1971 shop manual shows all 1971 455 engines in B,C & E body cars (88-98-Toro) use R46S AC plugs. A-body (F85-Cutlass) 455-4 barrel engines use R45S. R45 won't hurt a thing, it just doesn't have the extended tip the S plugs have. The 45 may actually help eliminate pinging as it is a colder plug than the 46.
