Steering shaft on a 67 GS 400

I am rebuilding the front end suspension and need to get the upper control arm (drivers side) out of the car. I need to remove the steering shaft (if that is the correct term) so I can access the bolds that hold the control arm. Do I remove the shaft from the power steering unit or from the firewall? Both? HELP? I know this is simple but I have never done this before and don't want to screw anything up.

Thanks in advance.

On my 70 I removed it from the firewall. If I remember correctly I had to take the bolt all the way out instead of just loosening it. I assume the 67 is similar. Make a note (mark) on how the shaft is oriented so you match the same splines up when you put it back together and your wheel is not crooked.
