Guest
Any success (or disaster) stories about aftermarket air conditioning unit for 1940 (or near year) Special with 248 Straight-8? I have already converted to 12-v with single-wire alternator.
The Old Guy
The cooling system in the 40s Buicks is border line at best.If you are contemplating an AC unit , I would upgrade the radiator at the same time.
Reatta Man
1. The overall cooling system will need modifications. You may need at least a five-blade fan, and/or a fan clutch with a custom-made fan shroud, or an electric fan. If you are serious, talk to the folks at Vintage Air. They maybe have done a couple other cars like yours, or have a complete kit available. They are located on the Web at www.vintageair.com 2. Keep in mind that the straight eight engine is not exactly a rocket to start with. Add a 20% drag from the compressor, and you may not like the way the car drives and accelerates. Just something to keep in mind.....Joe
Guest
Thanks for the insight, I guess the cooling system will be a major obstacle.
