I'm having trouble locating the id numbers on my set of heads for a 455. How exactly do i identify my heads? and what heads are best for a 455 i plan on putting a 390 hp [1968 era] cam into?

I've located a "G" casting I.D. stamp on my heads what are the spec's on what type of car they came from and how do I find out the exact year make and model that these came from ?

thanx man mine have a G and along side to the lower right it has a figure that looks as if it could be the top triangle of an A or a triangular figure. Could it be a mis cast A or is it impossible and how could I verify whether or not they are W-30 heads? Please help - in desperate need of assistance;

The only surefire way I know of is to pull the head and measure the valve face. I've seen Ga heads on Ninety Eights and I doubt any of those were packing a W30! though I know of at least two Stage 1 Electras so I suppose it was possible to get what you wanted.

That said- with the right pistons, G or Ga make a decent performance head. Keep that in mind- compression ratio on an Olds is changed with the piston, not the head. You need at least 10:1 compression to take advantage of a big cam like the 390 hp job you want.
