Guest
I have a '71 Cutlass convertible and a 5500lb. travel trailer. My question is would it be at all sane to try towing the trailer with that car? If so, what modifications would be needed?
Guest
Rule of thumb for safe towing, the item being towed should never exceed the weight of the towing vehicle. A three to two ratio being a safe margin. Unless you are going to put 1500 lbs in your Cutlass.... can you say tail wagging the dog!
rocketraider
Heavy duty engine and transmission cooling and station wagon rear springs at the very least. A trailer this heavy will have to have an equalising hitch which may or may not be available for your car. You already have the HD frame in convertible, but the trailer load may make it flex more than you'd like. <P>I'd be inclined to get a truck with a 10000 lb towing package.
