stude24
I picked up two boxes of "Empire" brand Tire Bolts at a flea market and have no idea what they are used for. They were in with a bunch of automotive stuff, so I assume they are auto related. They are 1/4 inch diameter and came in two lengths, 2-1/4" and 2-1/2". The head is similar to a standard flat head machine screw, but has no slot for a screwdriver. By the printing on the boxes I'd say they are early 1900's. Any idea what these were used for? D Binger
Tire bolts are also called fallow(sp) bolts. They hold the steel rim onto the wood fallow on buggy. wagons, and early automobiles. The steel rim on buggys and wagons is called a tire.
Dan
[ 06-14-2001: Message edited by: D Binger ]
