Guest RolandGM60
I’m rebuilding my 1960 Dynaflow…I have an issue, both hydraulic pumps look very scored and I am not sure how to repair them.A little background info : I have never dismantled or rebuilt a transmission in the past. So please consider me a true amateur. The dynaflow was slipping incredibly in drive (low and reverse seemed fine). The converter was very worn although oil was clean (I suspect it had some metal shards go through it in the past and was rebuilt without changing may parts – see picture).Ok so both pumps are scored (see pics) …. I am not sure how bad it is or what I should do.Can I save them ? and put them on fine sandpaper on a piece of glass and try to take out some of the scores (won’t get them all). Will I have an issue with the gap between the pump and plate if it is too worn or if I sand it down too much ? Finding new pumps seems impossible and would probably be costly. What options do I have ?Thanks for any ideas, help or uplifting comments to cheer this rebuild up !Roland
old-tank
All pumps and plates that have been in service will have a wear pattern....it depends on how deep the grooves are. It is my understanding that the plates have only a thing layer of hardness, that will not be there if surfaced. It is always best to check the pressures as outlined in the service manual before disassembly. If the low and reverse band were holding there may be problems other than pump pressure...again see the troubleshooting section of the service manual. You will need some new converter parts. Look closely for evidence that it had been 'rebuilt' before...prior work may have substituted parts, omitted some.Willie
