Guest TheRusch
The engine in a 1940 Buick Special I purchased about 2 years ago was partly disassembled and left to rust. I was able to purchase a 1938 engine with some of the parts missing. I am using the distributor from the 1940 engine, but it bottoms out before coming in contact with the mounting boss on the block. There is about a 1/4 inch gap. The oil pump shaft is engaged because the distributor turns when the engine is rotated. Any ideas why this is? Guest TheRusch
I guess it's been too long since I worked on an engine with a distributor. It must have been a senior moment thinking that the oil pump turned the distributor. I finally got the key in the distributor shaft to engage the slot in the oil pump shaft. By turning the engine over while wiggling the distributor, it finally dropped down in place. Now for some Spring weather, so I can open the garage door and move the car out so I can clean the front suspension and frame.
