Guest buickkuhn
Looks like they removed the factory outside latch and did not remove the lead guide that lines the hood up when closing (as if the latches are closed before the hood comes down) . In the past I have seen lift brackets made around the radiator area connected to the hood and locking pins that come from the inside of the car to go threw firewall and into the hood backing plate . With this also some reinforcement to the hood backer needs to be done to . That is one idea good luck
39BuickEight
I actually sold my extra side panels and hood latches for my '39 to a guy who has a custom '39 and wanted to put the original style back on. They had shaved the latches and everything. Instead of trying to cut holes back in, he just used my originals and replaced it all.
