Guest Hal Davis (MODEL A HAL)
What is the proper orientation of the Model A Ford emergency brake retract springs? I have the spring coiled around the emergency brake shaft housing with its "tail" pressing down on the top of the service brake camshaft housing and the "hook" hooked around the emergency brake arm pulling it to the rear. This is the position that makes sense to me, but the "hook" does not fit very well. As a matter of fact, I broke one of the springs at the "hook" trying to install it. Rick Hoover
Hal,
Sounds like you have them on correctly. Like so many other repro items, they're not always made properly. Sometimes you need to spread the hook a bit to fit the lever arm. They always were a pain in the neck to install.
Rick
Guest Hal Davis (MODEL A HAL)
Thanks, Rick. I'll get another set next time I place an order. I think I will bend the hook a little to get a more secure hold on the arm.
