Timing chain cover, problems you may run into

post-85985-143142366155_thumb.jpgOn my 67, the soft ( cast aluminium) cover can be damaged easily. On the left is what I thought was the cover properly cleaned, sandblasted, bathed in alcohol prior to painting. On the right, if you look carefully, are some small gouges we made while prying it off. Big mistake and no way to repair (as far as I know). We didn't notice until we started her up. New cover from OPG $500 but it came with the new bearing pressed in place. Live and learn. I was stunned how easily the water leaked out due to what seemed like small gouges.
