Beltfed
Poking around the engine desk. Opened up the steering box and guess what, dry as a bone. What modern lube do I service it with and how much? Thanks
abelincoln
Owner's manual says use 90 wt gear oil, fill to plug. But if yours leaks too much, I've found Ford dealer stocks a grease cartridge for early mustangs that you put in with a grease gun that seems to work pretty good, and stops the leak. Otherwise, remove (ugh) and replace seals.Abe
dan at larescorp
If you're going to use a grease you should take the box apart and pack the grease in as you would a bearing. If you just pump the grease into it the grease won't get to all the places it is required.
Beltfed
I'm unsure how bad it leaks. I purchased this car from South Dakota and have no history on it what so ever. I do know I scraped enough S. Dakota dirt/grease from under the car to truly believe I now own several acres in that state. Thanks for the info.
