1922 Franklin

I recently acquired a 1922 Franklin and after getting it to running it has a problem, if I try to give it full throttle it spits and sputters no matter if it is setting or going down the highway. I have tried cleaning the points, adjusted the timing, carb mixture, I was told to set the plug gap to 31,000, cleaned the carb best of my ability, tried different plugs and nothing seems to help. When I got it there was a straight pipe from the tank to the carburetor and it did it so I connected the vacuum tank which works well after a new gasket and a little cleaning and proper connecting . Still no better. It has a Dodge Brothers Stewart Carb on it could it not be giving enough gas. any suggestions?<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Sounds like it's running lean. If so, you'll need to enrichen the mixture. Does it have an adjustable main jet?

Wehen it spits and sputters, does it pop out the carb intake?

Could also have ignition issues. 0.031 plug gap might be a bit wide if your system is not up to snuff. If you lower the gap to, say, 0.028 and the car runs no better, then you need to enrichen the mixture.
