Guest thewillismon
I had a 66 GS back in the mid 70's it was my first car. I loved it! it had a 4 speed trans and a 401 in it that was painted turquoise green, and no finned valve covers. The pictures I've seen of other 65 and 66 GS have a red-orange colored engine and finned valve covers Was this a non original engine? It had dual exhaust but was very quiet. I'd have thought that a performance oriented car would have more of a rumble to it. Maybe someone hung exhaust off of a base Skylark? Just wondering......Thanks Jim
Don McClair
The finned aluminum valve covers and a chrome air cleaner were part of an engine dress up kit that I have been told were part of a "Dealer" installed option. All of the 1966 Gran Sports had their 401 cube engines painted red instead of the Buick green. The 1966 Wildcat Gran Sport and the Riviera GS also fell into this category. cjp69
65's should be painted Buick green, and as Don noted, the 66's were red.
