Chrysler products are different and require special tools to properly install and adjust the brake shoes. The shoe adjustment tool is no longer made so you have to make your own. The shoe adjustment tool is no longer made so you have to make your own.The car has been sitting for about forty years. I'm sure the rubbers on the wheel cylinders are rotted. Rebuild master cylinder, replace wheel cylinders, replace brake shoes, replace brake hoses and have drums turned at an auto machine shop or a reliable clutch and brake shop. Check RockAuto.com for parts. Sometimes they have them and they are cheaper than other suppliers. If Rock Auto doesn't have everything then check with Andy Bernbaum (oldmoparts.com) and NorthwesternAutoParts.com. The brake shoes have to be centered in the drums and it takes a special tool to adjust the shoes so they are centered. See the thread "Cadillac59 rear brake shoe adjustment" in the Technical forum above to see an adjusting tool and explanation of how it works.Rear brake drums require a hub puller to remove them from the axle shafts.Lug bolts on the left side of the car are left hand thread so they turn clockwise to loosen, and, the lug bolts on the right side of the car are right hand thread so they turn counter-clockwise to loosen.If you don't have a shop manual for your car, get one. Rusty_OToole Posted June 14, 2013 Share Posted June 14, 2013 The brake drum is rivetted to the hub. In normal service they are treated as one piece.
