Guest Steeleco
My 63 riv runs pretty good, nice and smooth plenty of power. There is no oil smoke or any other smoke comming out of the tail pipe but the exhaust smells pretty strong. Is there a way to adjust the carb to minimize the fumes? Jim Cannon
These cars have no catalytic converter, so the exhaust will smell stronger than what you are used to on a modern car.Having said that, the idle mixture IS adjustable, using the 2 idle mixture screws on the front of the carb, down at the base.To get best and cleanest idle, you want to make sure your ignition points are clean and the cam dwell is set correctly. You need good plugs that are gapped correctly. Listen at the exhaust pipes for puffing. That is poor combustion. An engine will seem to run well if it is running rich. It will have power but get bad gas mileage. This same rich engine will idle rough and smell bad.
