Guest StanChevy1935
Good Afternoon:I'm approaching the time to consider interior/upholstery fabrics for my 1935 Chevy restoration project. I do not want to use wool with its moth larvae problems. It appears the original fabric resembles a brown cotton corduroy type material.Does anybody know of a source of fabric that's either cotton or made made fibre that is very durable for auto upholstery and has the look of the 1930's?LeBaron Bonney has fabrics with the correct look and feel, very nappy, solid browns, but all of them are wool. Thanks
Guest bkazmer
sounds like whipcord or bedford cord. Cotton is not very durable - wool is. Avoid polyester blends - they look cheap, shiny, and non-authentic because they are.
sambarn
Go with the wool. Keep the windows up and a couple of mothballs around if you are that worried. My 34 Chevy interior did wear out, the original wool just couldn't do another 75 years of wear and was replaced because it looked shabby after 30.000 miles of touring in the last 25 years that we have owned it. Steve Braverman
The bulk of the cost of upholstery work is the labor. Using non-original materials will greatly devalue your car. Use the right stuff.
