TonyAus
According to the Mechanics' Instruction Manual (April 1927) the clearances should be .004" (inlet) and .005" (exhaust) when set hot.
Guest Fuimus
Thank you for your response. Information from "Similar Threads" below offered a cold temperature setting which after consultation with a mechanic colleague, we have used. I am awaiting final delivery of parts to complete Vacuum Tank, Carburettor and Water Pump restoration, then it should be a goer! Gearbox has been checked and restored as appropriate, brakes relined and reset, new wheel studs installed, electrics are being rewired and I am having a replica exhaust system manufactured and new radiator core fitted. Most of this work is done by small specialist automotive shops in Johannesburg, who take care to maintain authenticity. It is pretty expensive to import componentry into South Africa, although I have done so through Myers Early Dodge in USA and Vintage and Classic Reproductions in Australia, both of whom have been very helpfiul.I am, however, still looking for a speedometer drive gear, which is missing from the gearbox. There are only a handful of pre-1930's Dodge Brothers vehicles in South Africa, which was dominated by Ford and General Motors in thaat period. This Forum has been a great source of information. Thanks to all of you for your passion and willingness to share.

Guest Fuimus
Thank you Jason. My car is a 1927 Fast Four Sedan with Frame No. A 970 178 and Engine No. 1023-515. The Speedometer Gear is in a thin Brass Casting extension to the 3-Speed Gearbox, currently sealed with a wine cork! I will now try and upload the pictures I have taken.Hope this helps! Guest 1930
Very nice car, looks like you have a well organized and neat garage and I am envious. I will look into this a little bit and with your help and hopefully others help I can get a better understanding of what to look for, at this point I am still unsure since you dont have a picture of what the actual part looks like. I am assuming it is separate from the speedometer cable? Is that correct? The speedo cable attaches to this extension? I certainly do not have one myself but will start asking around and looking for one once I am clear on what the part is.
