1963 Corvette Coupe, factory A/C, loaded

Recommended Posts

*SOLD*

Thanks to the rigors of Corvette judging standards, I can say with a great deal of confidence that this is one of the nicest '63 split-window Corvettes in the world. It's even more interesting because it is 100% matching-numbers, is one of only 278 cars built with factory A/C in '63, shows just 57,356 original miles, and has every comfort and convenience option available that year. It won its NCRS Top Flight award in April 2011, where it scored 97.3%, and those last 2.7% worth of items have been corrected and it will be re-evaluated this October. It is quite likely a 100-point car today.

The engine is the original L75 327/300, fully rebuilt to stock specifications and detailed correctly in every way. We have restoration photos and they even show that the engine was assembled then painted, and the paint was allowed to burn off the exhaust manifolds as new. Hoses, clamps, nuts, bolts, and markings are all exact, and it has been finely tuned so it runs better than most trailer queens you've seen. If you want to drive it (and I'll admit that I'd have a hard time resisting it), it runs flawlessly. The engine is mated to a 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission and a 3.70 rear end, so performance is impressive but not high-strung or temperamental.

Inside it has an all-new black bucket seat interior and every soft surface is fresh. The gauges are rebuilt, and the original (and rare) AM/FM radio is fully functional. The A/C works properly, blows ice cold, and even uses original R12 refrigerant. You'll also note this one has power windows, power steering, and power brakes. The full list of options includes:

A01 Tinted glass

A31 Power windows

C60 Air conditioning

G81 Positraction

J50 Power brakes

L75 327/300 horsepower engine

M35 Powerglide transmission

N40 Power steering

P92 Whitewall tires

U69 AM/FM radio

It was ordered with knock-off wheels, but since no '63 Corvettes were delivered with them due to production problems, it wears stock steel wheels and hubcaps. A set of original knock-offs can be included with the car (please inquire).

Nearly $100,000 was spent on the 2-year frame-off restoration, and the quality shows. Corvette guys know what it takes to compete at this level, and what a challenge it is to make these cars "correctly incorrect" and the work on this car is extremely impressive. With these options, it's rarer than a Fuelie (they built almost 10 times more fuelies than cars with A/C) and very few cars are restored to this level. Priced at $129,900.
