65 Riviera: How to improve handling

I have a 1965 Riviera and I would like to improve the road manners of the car. I would like to stick with the stock ride height but I would like it to have more road feel and handle better. Right now it just kind of floats along and I want it to feel more like a performance car. I don't mind going with non stock components. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

How are the shocks? Jack up the tire pressure, low profile tires, does it have front and rear sway bars? Is there movement in the steering wheel BEFORE the wheels begin to turn, maybe some of the steering components are worn?

Just some thoughts,
