Antique automobile literature

Recommended Posts

Guest boydjohn7

Several years ago I inherited a box of antique automobile (and other) literature from my grandfather, Herman Henkel, who, in about 1915 made a "cross country" run in an EMF. He later reconstructed a 1909 EMF, kind of in honor of that trip and his history with EMF. I am including the list in this email. I still have the materials available, and am still interested in selling them, as a package, as we are planning on moving to Florida and don't really want to move them again.

Please let me know if you are interested, know anyone who might be, and what sort of price. As I indicated, I am interested in selling the entire package..

Thanks

Don't believe he ever submitted it for a medal; he did write a journal that was published long ago in the (now) Lansing (Michigan) State Journal. Not aware of any log books -- at least not that came to me. I will check further and see what I can find out. And also see if I can locate a copy of what was published.

As a PS -- his name was Herman Henkel, and he was affiliated, back then, with EMF in the Lansing, MI area. The story goes that he had to deliver a vehicle to a purchaser "out west", and so drove the car, with a pal, to the west coast. I'll see what more I can learn.

From what little research we have found, it looks like the medals that MoToR was giving out were only for 1915 and 1916. His name would be on that list in my first photo if he were trying for it in 1916. I have a list for 1915, too, but don't see his name on that, either. Since I know they updated the list a couple of times, I was wondering if you had any more information. Based on what you've just said, though, it sounds more like it was a quick decision, rather than something planned out in advance.
