Guest hilbert77
Does anyone know what a 1937 Pontiac 6 engine and trans weighs? Thanks
Rusty_OToole
I'll go out on a limb and guess 800 pounds. 650 for the engine, 150 for trans, clutch flywheel and bellhousing. This is based on knowledge of what similar engines weigh.
Guest billybird
I would guess 700 total. 550 for the engine and 150 for the tranny. If you get enough responses, at least you may be able to get an approximate average.
Guest Water Jacket
H77, assuming you're concerned about your cherry picker or garage beam, etc., 1946 Packard specs list the weight of their 245-ci six with clutch and transmission at 697 lbs., and it's safe to say your Pontiac six weighs no more. The Packard six w/ clutch, transmission and overdrive weighs 757 lbs. The above Packard inline L-head six ran 1937-47, in '48 in taxi and export bathtubs, and as a marine engine. You want heavy, my '47 Super Clipper's 356-ci inline 8 w/ clutch, transmission and overdrive: 985 lbs., a fourth the shipping weight of the entire car. The 356 was also offered as a marine engine. No boat anchor jokes, please. Hope this helps.
