1942 Studebaker Champion Coupe *SOLD*

Recommended Posts

Here's a neat little find--I can't remember the last time I ever saw a 1942 Studebaker, especially with only 4612 Champions being built that year. This lovely coupe has an interesting history, with the original owner using it as regular transportation until she was 92 years old. It has been extensively serviced, including a rebuilt engine, fresh braking system, a recent interior, and paint that was done several years ago.

The car is equipped with overdrive, which allows the rebuilt 170 cubic inch flathead six to cruise at modern highway speeds without effort. The engine bay was nicely detailed, and it runs smoothly, with surprising torque out on the road. The chassis appears to be largely original and untouched, but all the mechanical systems are in first-rate condition.

The body appears to have been painted on the frame in a vintage-looking dark blue that is probably close to the original hue. It looks quite good in person, with good fit and finish and a period-appropriate shine. Most of the chrome is likely original, with some light pitting on the hood ornament and grille, but the excellent bumpers and guards appear to have been restored. The stainless body trim is excellent.

The new interior is probably not authentic, but looks great. The seats are cloth, and the carpets were done at the same time. All the gauges work, although the radio does not. It also carries optional factory turn signals, which have an aftermarket look to them, but the indicators are integrated into the instrument panel.

An unusual alternative to Pontiacs and Plymouths of the era, this unusual little Stude is a neat cruiser that's a lot of fun to drive.

Asking $24,900 or best offer.
